Abstract
Three challenging situations emerged in the growth process of teaching partnerships involving K-12 teachers and graduate fellows in the sciences, mathematics, engineering, and technology disciplines. We assisted to a stimulating exchange of educational ideas between teachers and fellows negotiating the separated roles proposed in the partnership. The current analysis of the three particular situations has been motivated by two reasons. First, it helped understand the nature of communication between teachers and fellows. This may support the formulation of an agenda to sustain future teaching university-schools partnerships in instructional contexts characterized by scientific modeling. Second, the teaching decisions behind the partnerships' actions underlined the specificity characterizing each instructional environment. Focusing on students' understanding, the partners were obliged to review their goals and positions in the partnership.
