Abstract
The change of ICT skills of student teachers is analysed over a period of time from when ICT strategies were implemented in teacher education. In 1995 students had problems even with the use of e-mail, a medium which five years later had become very popular and ubiquitous. In 1999 the use of Internet was less frequent and efficient than expected. The integration of ICT had not succeeded at the level of expectations. Students did not use ICT since they were not confident in their skills and since they felt that old working methods were sufficiently good for them. New set of data was collected in November 2005 to see the development in this sector, which proved to be far less drastic than had been anticipated. On the basis of the new data emerging trends in ICT use are discussed especially from the viewpoint of mathematics and science teacher education including future challenges of teacher education and the role of strategies and their implementation in the development of curricula, study environments and learning materials.
