Abstract
Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) are implicated in transformations at all levels of society. One key consideration is how current and emerging technologies affect the definition and design of "literacy." This paper builds upon and expands a published chapter in "Towards Digital Equity: Bridging the Divide in Education" and raises issues about the equitable design of social futures and the implications for defining and designing literacies and literacy instruction. Dialogue on these issues will be welcome and encouraged.
