Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of socio-scientific inquiry (SSI) instruction on student achievement and attitudes towards science. Specifically, this study addressed the following research questions: 1. What impact does participation in an SSI unit have on high school students’ knowledge of science content? 2. Is there a difference in gains in science knowledge between students based on levels of prior knowledge in science? 3. What impact does participation in an SSI unit have on high school students’ attitudes towards science?
