Abstract
Digital badges utilize the affordances of technology to allow for accomplishments to be transparently recognized and easily shared. The implications for education are easily recognized considering the role of assessment and evaluation in teaching and learning. While literature is emerging around using digital badges in education, few studies have actually implemented and examined digital badging systems. The purpose of this paper is to examine the existing literature on the use of digital badges in education and to describe the development of a digital badge platform for a teacher training program at a University in the United States.
