Abstract
Japan’s new Course of Study, the government guideline for teaching, requires elementary and junior high school students to acquire the abilities of “acquisition” and “utilization.” However, teachers are concerned about the feasibility of accomplishing this aim through the limited curriculum, and an attitude survey shows that they believe the existing instructional methods need to be revised. Therefore, we tested a learning environment and method in which learning at home and school are closely related. A student attitude survey conducted afterward revealed that the video shown as preparation for learning stimulated the students to appreciate and understand the face-to-face class and promoted their studying at home. On the other hand, a remaining task is to create a learning environment in which school lessons are utilized more effectively by all students, and we also need to conduct more evaluations of how video learning preparation affects students’ academic achievement.
