Abstract
Abstract: Robotics Around the World, a pilot course, modeled an online, global, constructionist learning environment using LEGO® Mindstorms Robotics as the common denominator, and Blackboard course management software as the distance communication tool for global exchange. The course was designed based on best practices of online learning and constructionist teaching and learning, while adding global perspectives. This paper shares the results of three research questions examined during the pilot course: 1) Can participants build an online global community of practice and create their own learning? 2) Can participants design, build, and program robots collaboratively in an online global classroom? 3) Will participants broaden their global perspective and knowledge through this interaction? Analyses of data collected, and instructor and student reflections, indicate positive findings to all three questions.
