Abstract
More and more students are bringing their personal mobile devices to higher education institutions. This trend provides an unprecedented opportunity for harnessing these devices for teaching and learning. However, bringing students’ personal mobile devices to the classroom creates challenges to institutions used to determine which technology students and faculty would use in teaching and learning practices. This paper reviews key challenges associated with adopting students’ personal mobile devices in the classroom. These challenges are network infrastructure, network security, IT support, equity issues, and classroom disruptions. Based on the review, the paper proposes potential strategies to help address the challenges.
