Abstract

Abstract: This paper describes the award-winning pedagogical innovation of a virtual collaboration between two classes in different schools at a major mid-Atlantic university. In the school of education a professor was looking to teach her students the importance of advocacy in the field of education. Meanwhile, a communication professor was looking for assistance to instruct his students about the learning theories needed to understand the audience segment his students were serving in a service-learning project. This paper describes the e-learning that took place between these two different classrooms that ultimately allowed the students to better understand their own disciplines by serving as telementors to other students in the university. Ultimately through the virtual classroom both classes saw how education and advocacy are intertwined.
