Abstract

This article describes a sample lesson that incorporates the use of cell phones and promotes mLearning in an elementary classroom. Students use cell phones to help in the revision stage of the writing process. It is beneficial for students to hear their writing out loud to help fill in the gaps in their writing. The use of cell phones and the Phonecasting website, which records phonecasts, similar to podcasts, help with this step and to make this reading aloud more permanent rather than just “talking to the wall” or using “whisper phones” where students can go back and listen to their writing to make revisions. The use of cell phones and the students recording of their writing can also be used as an assessment for teacher and a way to differentiate writing lessons for English Language Learners, students with language processing difficulties, and attention deficit disorders.
