Creating your First Hybrid Course

At Indiana University Kokomo in addition to typical classroom lectures courses are provided in the hybrid format. Typically fifty percent of the course is delivered online and fifty percent in the classroom. As a commuter campus this format appeals to returning students who for a variety of reasons prefer to come to campus less. The majority of the students starting the course were not familiar with the online tools used in the course. A clear explanation of the tools was essential. It is often a dilemma for faculty new to this format to make decisions on what works best online and what to keep in the classroom. This session is designed for faculty new to hybrid course development to discuss course design and the best use of online tools for collaboration and learning. A hybrid course developed for teaching Adobe® Premiere® Elements will be used as an example.
