Abstract

This paper examines the use of digital video authoring activities in four secondary English teachers’ classrooms to better understand how multimodal tools are integrated into traditional print literacy practices. While print remains privileged, the multimodal representations produced by students result in ways of knowing and thinking that are equally valued by the teachers. The connections between the new media practices and traditional print practices provide pedagogical implications for the preparation of teachers who can successfully engage students using both old and new modes of representation/communication.
