Abstract

The challenge of global aging cannot be ignored since two-thirds of all people who have ever lived to age of 65 are alive today. Mobile technology is an innovative outreach beyond academic programs silos. Mobile digital storytelling for intergenerational studies innovates and leverages technology to connect students with life events beyond the campus. It merges interdisciplinary academic concepts, combats intergenerational stereotypes, and changes perceptions. Our Images of Aging digital storytelling photo contest, now in its 6th year, is a positive, interdisciplinary campaign matching students with older adults to digitally record a more realistic view of aging. This is important to spark conversations and build dialogues of advocacy and social justice. This resource-sharing paper demonstrates mobile, social media, and organizational (Gantt chart/QR-coded) essentials needed to promote and implement an Images of Aging digital storytelling contest at your campus.
