Abstract

This paper reports on one aspect of a larger study, namely the use made of technology by pre-service teachers in their school placements. The pre-service teachers completed an on-line questionnaire; the data was imported into SPSS to permit cross-tabulations and analysis though the small numbers prevented extensive use of statistics. The most frequently used technologies suggest a transmissionist approach to education. Examples of creation of teaching material and other uses requiring a creative input are rare. Both first and second level barriers to technology use exist for this group. Some effect of self-reported expertise on using technology is noted.
