Abstract
Our institution has one of the largest laptop deployments in Canada (over 40 programs), is one of the largest wireless facilities, and has won a provincial Team Innovation Award for its mobile computing initiative. What distinguishes our success has been the inclusion of faculty, cross disciplinary and cross-service teams; the creation of unique mobile classrooms equipped with podiums, puddle tables and (data) projectors; faculty greenhouses with specialized equipment and meeting space; student tech tutors; and the emergence of faculty champions who pioneered the shift from traditional classroom teaching to a more collaborative and engaging hybrid learning environment. We will review some of these key developments and best practices that allowed our institution to go from 0 to 6000 laptops over 7 years and reflect on how our learnings are continuing to influence two new projects: the selection of a new LMS and the development of model of online course development.
