Abstract

Preservice teachers are faced with a myriad of information technology devices to use personally, academically, and at work. Given that ownership of students’ technology is ever increasing, colleges of education ought to be keenly aware about the types and number of devices students own and how they use them. The paper shares an inquiry of preservice teacher technology ownership, use of and skill with technology in several aspects of their lives. The inquiry yields suggestions for the selection of assignments, class activities, and technology explorations that provide preservice teachers with an opportunity integrate the use of technology they own into their future teaching and to be creative. Identifying technologies preservice teachers own, use, value, and feel skilled using may provide additional opportunities for teacher educators to inspire preservice teachers to meaningfully integrate technology in their future teaching.
