Abstract

In March of 2006, the Phi Delta Kappan did a special section on Educating Leaders for Tomorrow's Schools. The focus of this special section was that university-based educational leadership preparation programs range from "inadequate to appalling." To meet the call to develop new models of educational leadership preparation that responds to the demands of the times, the College of Education and Human Services of Abilene Christian University working with Department of Distance Education created an entirely new online master's degree in educational leadership. This paper reports on the creation of this new online model from the ground up. The report includes descriptions of new concepts in graduate program design, online pedagogy, delivery, and meeting the requirements of accreditation.
