Abstract

Defense Acquisition University (DAU) is one of the largest corporate universities in the Department of Defense Learners are supported in classes and through distance learning at worksites where ever the US military has been deployed. Since the 1990's DAU has been engaged in distance learning in a variety of modalities up through the current evolution to a 24/7 performance learning model. This session explores how the MALTES factor can be applied in decision making to determine how to make an organization more responsive to learners' needs. The MALTES factor is a mnemonic for considerations such as Mission supportability, Affordability, Learner friendliness, Technology availability, Effectiveness/Efficiency and Skills sets for the faculty and stakeholders. This presentation will provide an overview of the evolution of the deployment of distance learning technologies in relation to the MALTES factor.
