Abstract

The WebKit Freiburg is a technically standardized and didactical consistent solution for the production of interactive e-learning materials. It mainly consists of a set of Macromedia Flash templates and offers a low threshold application for amateurs in content production. Our framework provides a powerful tool to design high-quality learning materials either as stand-alone applications or for the web, i.e. the resulting learning objects can be used both online and offline. The technology has been purpose-built and tested in four projects in the field of geography where more than 100 online learning modules have been produced with a previous version of the kit. After adaptation of this widely respected set of templates a first production release of the new WebKit is available since summer 2005. This version now is more suitable for general use. Upcoming versions will support standards for content packaging (e.g. like SCORM).
