Computer-based modeling, scientific visualization and informatics have become critical technologies for doing science and mathematics in the 21st Century. The use of modeling and visualization can help increase science literacy and deep learning of complex ideas; observation, measurement, graphing, curve fitting, modeling, and visualization are all part of a continuum of doing science. But until there are convenient ways for teachers to incorporate developmentally appropriate modeling and visualization throughout the curricula, it will not happen. This is the mission of EdGrid (http://www.edgrid.org), a nationwide partnership to explore methods of integrating modeling and visualization as methods of discovery and scientific analysis into K-12 teacher education. This panel will share, in an interactive "talk show" format, what the EdGrid teams have learned focusing on the five most promising strategies.
