Abstract
The environment in which we live has significantly changed in the last decade. The ability to use computers to access and present information is now an important basic skill. The search for a definition of computer literacy is reviewed. The primary goal of this paper is to describe how Utah State University defined computer literacy and, subsequently, implemented a graduation requirement requiring all students to demonstrate competency in computer ethics, use of e-mail, the Internet, document processing, and spreadsheets and the basic understanding of computer operating systems. Additionally, survey data was collected regarding how other universities were implementing computer literacy, if at all.
