Abstract

Dr. Robby Robson (Eduworks Corporation and the IEEE Learning Technology Standards Committee), Mr. Stephen Downes (Canadian NRC), Dr. Magda Mourad (IBM Research), and Mr. Harry Piccariello (ContentGuard Inc.), will address and debate the issues of (1) how to implement Digital Rights Management (DRM) in e-learning technology and learning object repositories, (2) international standards and standardization efforts associated with DRM, and (3) patents that effect the implementation of DRM. This Socratic panel pulls together some well-known experts and practitioners with differing opinions around controversial topics. When all is said and done, the result should be some useful common understanding and very practical advice. (A proceedings paper will cover the terms, definitions, and problem statement, not the positions of all the panelists).
