Abstract

Japanese High school teachers of English have participated in an intensive teacher education program at an Intensive English Program at a Midwestern university. The program sponsored by the Ministry of Education in Japan aims at preparing teachers for changes in the curriculum. As part of the program, Japanese teachers are required to create e-portfolios to document their learning and demonstrate professional development. Reflections included in teachers’ e-portfolios should focus on lessons learned during the individual courses and how these can be applied to their future teaching practice. This roundtable aimed at stimulating a discussion on the use of e-portfolios as a way to en-courage reflective practice in teacher education programs by defining reflective practice and identifying best practices for the use of e-portfolios in teacher education programs.
