Abstract

The paper focuses on (a) conducting participatory action research (PAR) with teacher candidates who explore the Universal Design for Learning model integrating introduction to engineering and computer programming in elementary education; (b) exploring innovative teaching models and best practices for Math and Science Methods course; (c) investigating teacher candidates’ self reflections for bridging the theory to practice; (d) reflecting on teaching and lesson activities and (e) compiling transdisciplinary and innovative tools, strategies, assessment models and templates that participants co-created. Our collaborative, transdisciplinary research project investigated over 30 in-service teacher candidates and aims to develop global competencies and 21st century skills among teacher candidates via engineering and computer programming.
