Abstract

This best practices session provides a demonstration-oriented overview on the topic of open educational resources (OER) and provides a concrete example of a redesigned teacher education course for undergraduates. The primary focus of the session will be the demonstration of the way that a variety of open educational resources (both text-based and multi-modal) were used to revise an undergraduate course in literacy methods for teacher candidates at a large public university. The presenter reconstructed the course syllabus and implemented free digital resources, library-based resources, as well as multi-modal materials (such as YouTube videos, podcasts, and professor-authored multi-media) to engage students at no cost.
