Abstract

The purpose of this study is to advance understanding on how to foster cognitive presence in instructor led-online courses. This mixed method study aims to implement an instructional intervention that includes the use of multimedia to guide the interaction within an asynchronous online course. Community of Inquiry framework is used as a lens to view teaching-learning process. The results will inform online instructors and instructional designers about the teaching practices and multimedia tools that lead to the development of cognitive presence thereby forming a Community of Inquiry and will offer suggestions for further research
