Abstract

This paper focuses on the latest iteration of the Virtual Solar System (VSS) project (Hay & Barab, 1998). The project is part of the Apprenticeship in Cyberspace program that aims to "[take] advantage of the new possibilities of modeling enriched modeling-based inquiry learning environments" (LPSL, n.d.). Four phases comprise the apprenticeship model: (1) learning about the science and pedagogy (eliminating misconceptions), (2) working with learners in specialized learning environments, (3) creating video cases, and (4) integrating the practice into the classroom. The overall design and approach of this apprenticeship model has been developed to provide educators with needed training and support.
