Abstract

This paper discusses the designing principles of Infonomics (www.eco.edunuke.net/index.php), an open virtual environment for the support of a Principles of Economics course. This virtual environment, uses an Open Source (OS) Content Management System (CMS) as a technological basis, which combined with an, already existing, natural classroom environment creates a hybrid environment. It is argued that this hybrid environment, Infonomics, makes it possible to exploit advantages and avoid disadvantages of both the constituent environments. Early results of two implementations are also presented and analyzed as well as adjustments and additions proposed to make the operation of such virtual environments more effective.
