Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the status of technology education in the middle schools of Southern California. Specifically, answers were sought to the five research questions.

A structured questionnaire was administered to 360 middle school personnel to elicit personal information and to determine the status of technology education.

Most respondents were knowledgeable and knew the benefits of technology-based curricula. The respondents expressed an interest in technology education even though less than half have a technology base class at their school.

Recommendations include conducting a similar study in another state, assessing current trends in technology education, training teachers to teach technology education, and establishing and maintaining support groups and organization to foster the technology education movement in California.
