Abstract

Leadership as a function of management is critical in attaining organizational objectives and in online teams leadership in the third millennium seems to hinge on efficient and effective communication. Moreover, Information communication technology (ICT) may be said to be among the critical components shaping team members’ performance in the Middle East and North African Area (MENA). Technology has changed the way business team partners interact and engage in team performance online. The aim of this study is to determine whether online leadership stems from hierarchical authority or from the leader’s interpersonal skills. Data was drawn from a survey and face-to-face interviews with team leaders. Based on the results, it is recommended that further research be conducted on teams in order to better understand the complexity of ICT business team leadership in the MENA.
