The higher education systems of the countries joining the Bologna Declaration are involved in the process of convergence to a system of academic degrees more comparable and compatible throughout Europe. Lecturers and researchers interested in pedagogy have seen in the Bologna accords an opportunity to change not only the bureaucratic but also the methodological aspects of the new degrees. Spanish universities and, more particularly, the engineering faculties of the University of Zaragoza are currently involved in this challenge. The experience here referred presents the design process of an online learning course on signal processing in the post-Bologna scenario. The proposed learning model is based on competences acquired by students in order to facilitate their integration into the professional world. The work is focus on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of every step of the design and provides guidelines for future experiences.
