Abstract
Initial teacher education (ITE), programs during current times have seen a revolution in the use of tools and technologies in instructional practices. The unexpected emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic has reconceptualised how teacher education need to be carried out at short notice. A study was conducted with students regarding their attitudes about social media and technologies for learning. Student indications before Covid-19 was primarily a distinction between social media for social reasons and a general disruptiveness for learning. There was little focus or regard on LMSs and video conferencing technologies. The findings during the pandemic have shown changes in attitudes, specifically regarding the usefulness to keep in touch, communicate, to get support and to complete work. Students found that WhatsApp was especially useful for communication and collaboration. The university LMS and video conferencing technologies appeared to indicate a preferred learning style and a progression towards authentic online learning.
